How does Lipotherapy work?

The material injected is phosphatidylcholine /sodium deoxycholate (PCCDC). Phosphatidylcholine is a medication that has been used intravenously for more than 30 years to dissolve fat emboli in the blood stream, along with plaque from the heart. This drug is actually a soy lecithin, which is in many of the foods we eat, and it also exists in the human bile. Sodium deoxycholate, which is also present in the bile, acts like a detergent to remove fat. Injecting this medication, which is already in your body, into the subcutaneous layer of fat literally dissolves and kills fat cells locally.

Will I experience loose skin?

Because of the inflammation and edema that occur, skin experiences fibrosis and it tightens with the treated area.

Are there any side effects?

There may be some stinging and burning at the injection site. A temporary side effect beyond the edema are nodules that form under the skin. The nodules may range from pea to marble sized. They are invisible on the skin's surface, but you can feel them.. The nodules disolve on their own in up to six months.

Is Lipotherapy safe?

Lipotherapy is safe in moderation. At Sylvana we only do up to five areas at any one time, and wait two to four weeks between sessions. This waiting insures that the body has had enough time for the kidneys to process the PCCDC.

How quickly will I see results?

Lipotherapy is a process. We allow two to four weeks between sessions, with a series of four to five treatments. Most patients start to see results after the second or third treatment, although a few patients see results after one treatment.
